How to Choose an Advisor

Check Central Bank authorisation. All legitimate Irish pension advisors are authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland. You can verify registration at registers.centralbank.ie.

Ask about fees upfront. Is the advisor paid by fees from you, commission from providers, or both? Commission-based advisors aren't inherently worse, but you want to know.

Ask about specialism. Consolidation? Auto-enrolment? Self-employed Executive Pensions? Some advisors specialise.

Ask about the process. First meeting free? Flat fee? Percentage of assets? Get it in writing.

Read the Terms of Business before signing anything. Regulated advisors must provide this document.
